Supply chain disruptions can have enormous, unforeseen consequences. The supply chain is a complex and interconnected process. Each link affects the links further down, so one broken link can cause a lot of damage. Many factors can cause disruptions, and no company or industry is immune from the impacts. There are, however, measures that can be put into place to ensure your supply chain stays functional, even in times of chaos. To make it through supply chain disruptions, you need to diversify your shipping partners, have backup plans, invest in the right tech, and revaluate your processes constantly.

Jim Becker, the founder, CEO, and the creative force behind Becker Logistics has designed, and implemented systems and processes to ensure that transportation for an organization is taken care of with the best of abilities. Jim, along with his talented team, handles the supply chain for hundreds of customers. They have learned to leverage the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence and algorithms with computers to do a digital freight matching process with a percentage of their shipments. The company also leverages carrier relationships that they have. The company has over 100 thousand carriers under contract across the United States. They have been in acquisition mode since 2017 and are looking to merge or acquire a company each year for the next 10 years. This is simply a growth play in this large supply chain world.

"Becker Logistics has entered its 25th year of doing business and has expanded pre-Covid in various locations alongside implementing WFH."

Becker Logistics is entering its 25th year of doing business and has expanded pre-Covid in various locations alongside implementing work from home (WFH). "We are able to offer quality services to our customers and give them the best that is to offer." The company has made a social promise of helping the local homeless community by partnering with Humanity for the Homeless. Since January 2021, for each shipment Becker Logistics moves, they donate $1 which averages to about 425-500 loads per day.

For Jim, it is all about people because he believes that people matter! When he started identifying his true value, he understood that he could offer to listen, which he pursued; he started listening and giving a solution. He became a servant leader where he is constantly helping people and mentoring the people around him, be it his team or those who approach him.

He makes it a point to encourage people and show them the light at the end of the tunnel; he guides people when they seek his assistance. He has been termed a fantastic manager and an innovative entrepreneur because he can give individuals attention and a comfort zone where they can once again find themselves and their true potential. He makes sure that his employees voices are heard at every step because Jim believes that employees mirror any organization as they reflect how the company is functioning. “I make it a point that each of our managers sit with their teams weekly and guide them in the best way they can. We make sure that their learning process is constant, that way they are not only honing their skills but also getting hands-on exposure in the field of their interest. This way we see enhanced employee productivity, and, a new way of being” adds Jim.

According to Jim, ensuring on-time shipping is one of the most important things for a 3PL company to get right. The supply chain is becoming more complex, so it has become vital to provide on-time shipping with every order. Becker Logistics ensures on-time shipping in a variety of ways. The number one way is by working with only the best carriers and maintaining open communication with them while they are out on the road servicing and building America one load at a time.

Furthermore, they offer a wide array of services to ensure that the freight is delivered on time, such as expedited shipping. “Additionally, Becker Logistics provides support around the clock so that there is never a time that we are not keeping an eye on our shipments. We do all of this because we know the importance of our customer's freight. These shipments can make or break a company’s entire year, and when they put that trust in us, we take it as a responsibility, as should every logistics company.”

The company is adopting the latest in technology rapidly because they know that it plays a massive role in ensuring on-time shipping and improving the supply chain as a whole. We asked Jim how the growth has been over the last year. “Our 2020 revenue was $73 million dollars. In 2021 we grew organically $52.5 million dollars y/y totalling 72% growth. In addition to that, we had non-organic growth from our target company which we acquired in December that had $42 million in top line revenue making the non-organic growth 57% y/y. Overall, both the organic and non-organic growth added a combined total of $94.5 million to our top line which came to a total of 130% growth y/y. Our total top line revenue for 2021 was $167.5 million dollars.” IE
